Posted by Dan on Nov 30, 2008 in Lucky Hit

Described by a leading travel writer as “one of the splendid small inns in the nation,” The Inn at Saratoga has become the preferred place to stay for discriminating business and leisure travelers worldwide.

Situated in picturesque and historic Saratoga Village, the Inn’s guest rooms overlook serene Saratoga Creek and Wildwood Park. The Santa Cruz Mountains provide a majestic backdrop to this tranquil setting.

Business travelers have found that the Inn at Saratoga’s convenient location combines proximity to Silicon Valley destinations with the ambience of a world apart from the ordinary.

The Inn’s setting is ideal for small offsite meetings, while Saratoga’s “Restaurant Row” offers a splendid array of choices for entertaining clients and colleagues or relaxing with friends. During the summer, the Inn’s proximity to the music series at both Paul Masson and Villa Montalvo has made it the preferred hotel for discriminating concert goers. The abundance of wedding and reception venues in the greater Saratoga area have also contributed to the Inn’s popularity with newlyweds and their guests.

Among Silicon Valley Hotels, there is no equal to the Inn at Saratoga.

How To Build A Web Site To Make Money

Posted by Dan on Nov 30, 2008 in Lucky Hit

Most everyone will agree, if you are going to do business online, you need your own website. After all, it is with this website that you will try to make some money.  The website can be a mini-site or a full blown multi-page content site.

Find out what the topic of your website will be.  Then, decide on the strategy to use to design your site to meet your goals.  For example, if you want to build a site around making money with Adsense, you will want to consider a content site built around article content about the topic you will target for the Adsense income.

Maybe you have a single product to promote.  The service could be marketed using a mini-site; another word for a one page sales letter type of site.

Now get a website hosting account and a domain name like yoursite.com so you can install your website on the internet.  Web hosting accounts vary significantly with disk space allowed, bandwith, number of supported domains, and other important considerations.  When selecting a web host, pay special attention and compare features like PHP support, MySQL database allotment, subdomains, script support and others.  Good hosting is available through hosting companies like Hostgator or Hostmonster.

Start building your website.  I prefer a good seo website builder or a WordPress blog to build my site.  Create the page content for the site based on the niche topic you selected as your focus.  Add the content to the site based on subject keywords, with each unique page on the site focused on a specific keyword related to your topic.  As you add the content based on your main keyword, add related keywords throughout the same page that follow the same idea as your main keyword.  For example, your main keyword might be “preowned golf clubs”.  A related keyword you would add to the same page might be “used golf clubs”.

When you build your web site, target your audience. Don’t talk about network marketing to veterinarians. They may be interested in network marketing, but they probably got to your site via a search for a pet animal product and that’s what they’re looking for.  When you know your target audience you can be sure not to speak above their heads. Use words they will understand without Webster’s help. You may get by with writing a little below their level, but never above it.

Monetize the content of your seo website.  By monetizing we are adding Adsense ads or affiliate products or services to the site to earn money.  Adsense ads earn money when a site visitor clicks on the ad you are publishing on your site.  Affiliate products or services are reviewed on your site to presell them.  This preselling provokes the potential buyer to investigate further by clicking your banner ad or text link.  When clicked, these ad links redirect to the merchant site to close the sale of the product or service.  You, of course, get paid a commission when this process is successfully completed.

Some Important Website Building Tips

Don’t load your site down with slow loading banners and images. Use low-res images that have been optimized for use on the web.

Keep your fonts constant throughout your site. Variety may be the “spice of life” but can really look lousy on a web page. You can vary the size a bit, and throw in a little color, but stay conservative with the type style.

Add pictures on your site but don’t over do it.  Pictures attract attention and also make your site look good.

Highlight important selling words and phrases with bolding, italics, underlining, and color. Just don’t overdo it.

Purchases are never made on logic, but on emotion. Use copy that is designed to trigger an emotional response, such as a sense of loss; one of the strongest: “If you wait, this offer may no longer be available at this price. Get it now at this ridiculously low price, and it’s yours forever.”

Once you are online focus on driving targeted traffic to your web site.  The two main things to do for natural search engine traffic are to keep your site updated with fresh relevant content and to add backlinks consistently.

I’m so glad! my new dental plan just kicked in!

Posted by Dan on Nov 29, 2008 in Lucky Hit

Nice one! my outstanding dental coverage finally kicked in!

It’s been such a long time since I’ve been insured that I’ve been suffering from some unnecessary dental pain. That’s all about to change, since that new job I mentioned provides an insurance policy that is better than any that I’ve ever seen before. So, I’ll be getting my teeth corrected immediately. My coverage is so good, as a matter of fact, that I’m honestly considering going above and beyond just the realm of family dental measures and looking into some cosmetic dental work done too. My wife has been pestering me about doing some some straightening or some laser tooth whitening, so I’m seeing what kind of money we’d have to spend on those services.

The major stumbling block, for us, is figuring out how to find a reputable dentist in the Tampa Bay area. It makes me feel bad to admit it, but my family completely lacks a regular family dentist that we know and trust. We live in Tampa, Florida, so I’ve been hunting for a Tampa FL dentist that is good with kids and has a a lot of good experience with these particular types of services. It’s difficult to find! There are a lot of things you want to consider when you’re looking for a dentist. For example, I don’t know if I would want to visit a dentist who didn’t get most of his experience as a surgeon.

As far as the new types dental practices go, I’ve genuinely been considering the idea. The most advanced techniques have definitely been making leaps and bounds these last decade or so. I’ve been hearing about them on my favorite talk radio programs, how much better they are than traditional dental approaches. I’ve been looking around the web for “dental implants Tampa” and it seems like the techniques and equipment they use is pretty far beyond what you would have gotten 20 years ago, so I’m hoping that my family will end up being able to enjoy such good dentistry now that I have a a job that provides dental insurance like this.

The line is being distributed by Foot Locker in the U.S. and Puerto Rico.

Don Omar and UMBRO initiated the partnership in November of 2004 as an extension of the artist’s intent to bridge his creativity to a clothing line that best captures and represents the energy of Reggaeton and the urban lifestyle. Pin Collecting: A Friendly Obsession

Posted by Dan on Nov 28, 2008 in Lucky Hit

Pins are a hot collectible that offer an added advantage over other collections – they are small and do not take up much room. Pins are available in many motifs and themes. Some of the most collectible themes are Disney characters, sports teams, and Hard Rock Cafe. The first rule of pin collecting is to specialize. If you like the San Diego Padres baseball team, for instance, you can start pin collecting with souvenir pins that celebrate this team. Or try pins of professional golfers or golf equipment. And just because these themes are popular doesn’t mean you have to collect them. Be original and collect what you like.

Many pins are centered around modern entertainments, but many pin collecting enthusiasts collect campaign pins from election campaigns. Buttons are a similar item and are collected by many of the same people who do pin collecting. Pins created to advertise businesses and services are also very collectible.

To display pins you have several options. When you wear a jacket with lapels, you can wear a few of your favorite small pins. The same goes for wearing a cowboy hat or a vest. Many pin collectors wear a few on the front of a cowboy hat. Tote bags, purses, and fanny packs are another place where some pins can be displayed.

Of course, as you get into pin collecting, you will soon find that you have too many to wear the entire collection at one time. A bulletin board, perhaps covered with a plain piece of fabric, like dark blue velvet, makes a nice backdrop for a pin collection. The pins can either be pinned into the cork of the bulletin board through the velvet or attached to the velvet first.

Another way to display and store pins is in a notebook. This method works well if you wish to take some of your pins to an event where you can do some trading with other pin collectors. To make the notebook, purchase sheets of hard felt or craft foam. Either punch holes in the side so they fit into a looseleaf binder, or slip the pages into page protectors after attaching the pins to the pages. The type of looseleaf binder that zips closed is the best to use for pin collecting.

Sometimes pins get scratched, especially if they are stored in a notebook arrangement such that they hit each other. The scratches can be smoothed over with a tiny bit of liquid car wax (Check your allergy test first). Future scratching can be avoided by using page protectors in notebook collections.

Pin collecting is a very popular hobby, at lease as popular as bass fishing. You can find groups of likeminded people with which to trade pins, making pin collecting a hobby that helps people make friends.

Watch For Signs Of Burnout During Cycling Training

Posted by Dan on Nov 28, 2008 in Lucky Hit

Careful planning and periods of low intensity may keep an athlete from burning out while training for competition.

Athlete Burnout

Excessive training and a schedule that is simply too full can lead to burnout, to put it in simple terms, An athlete who is engaged in training for a major meet or has a daily schedule of cycling training while preparing for competition must, of course, be very focused. In fact, it is essential that this athlete have training goals at the top of his or her priority list.

However, the athlete that has not other interests or who does not allow time for relaxation is flirting with danger. The spectre of mental or physical breakdown is always there when the schedule pushes beyond reasonable limits.

If this period of overtraining continues the chances increase for the athlete to begin to lose his or her motivation for training. Even if the training methods are innovative and enjoyable at first, the repetition can make training seem stale and, in the athletes mind, unnecessary. Several experts and experienced professionals have considered this phenomena in books and videos that deal with training for competition.

Results Suffer

When boredom or dread becomes part of the mindset during an intense training period, the results will not be what they could be. Athletes even get the feeling of being let down, when they begin to blame other people or factors for their training failures or their poor race results. This is an area that needs to be watched very closely, according to the top running and cycling training professionals.

Those with experience in the field watch for such symptoms as continued fatigue, unusual levels of pain in the muscles, inability to sleep as competition approaches and mood changes. Any of these could be an indication of too much training that is leading to burnout. Talking with an athlete during the later stages of training for a major competition may uncover a general feeling of concern that seems to have no basis in injury or training results.

What Can The Athlete Do?

Any program of exercise or training should start slowly and increase in moderate steps. Training schedules should be upgraded gradually so that the athlete does not get burned out. A good base cycling training program will include only necessary repetition. While repeating actions is essential for athletic success, there is usually a point at which results actually suffer, rather than improve, because of repetition. Alternating short periods of intense work with times of low physical and mental stress may even bring back some of the enthusiasm for training in an athlete that is approaching the trouble zone.

Are You Ready for Your UK Driving Test?

Posted by Dan on Nov 27, 2008 in Lucky Hit

The cost of the UK driving test is not particularly cheap so you will want to be as prepared for it as you can. If you are not ready for your driving test the examiner may decide, in the interests of their own and public safety, to abandon the test. The examiner will leave you on the side of the road and walk back to the test centre.

It is important therefore to be ready for your driving test so it is highly recommended that you seek driving lessons / crash course from a local driving school with qualified driving instructors before taking the test.

The Practical Driving Test lasts about 40 minutes and is conducted by a Driving Standards Agency examiner from your local Driving Test Centre. It is up to you which test centre to use. It can be booked online using the DSA website or by telephone.

You will be tested on the following:

-Eyesight (The distance requirement for the old-style number plate is 20.5 metres. The distance requirement for the number plates that were introduced on 1 September 2001 are 20 metres.)
-Vehicle Safety Checks (Show Me / Tell Me)
-Control
-Moving Off
-Use of mirrors
-Signals
-Response to signs and signals
-Progress and use of speed
-Junctions
-Judgement
-Separation Distances/ Clearance to obstructions
-Pedestrian Crossings
-Parking
-Road Positioning
-Awareness and planning
-Ancillary controls

In addition to the above checks, you will also be tested on any two of the following manoeuvres:

-Turn in the road
-Left Corner Reverse (Right Corner Reverse for vehicles with obscured rear vision e.g. vans)
-Reverse Parallel Park
-Reverse Bay Park (dependent on your local driving test centre’s facilities – this could be at the start or end of your test)

Some tests (normally 1 out of every 3 tests) will additionally be asked to complete the emergency stop exercise.

If you complete the test with a maximum of 15 driver errors (no serious or dangerous faults) you will be the proud owner of a UK driving licence.

If you are unsuccessful, you will have to wait a minimum of 10 clear working days between your original test and any future retest. Whilst you will no doubt be eager to take your test, thorough preparation will undoubtedly help you achieve a pass far quicker than rushing to take it.

A Wild Ride: Rapidly Acquiring A Classic Mustang

Posted by Dan on Nov 27, 2008 in Lucky Hit

Well, I have not had time to post on my web site half as often as I might like, on account of how much I’ve been running around town with my pops manage his wet & wild midlife crisis. Well, I guess it’s not as crazy as it might be. How it went, I mean how he showed up was to get himself dressed up like the Fonz, and drop by to my crib and proclaim to me, in his jazziest dialect: “Hop in, boy, you and I are going out vying for some classic Mustangs for sale. You heard that right, buddy, I’m going to get one of my own.”

Next thing I know he & I were on our way to a couple of those crazy vintage car showrooms that most people are just about certain are not quite on the up and up, and I stare in wonder the old man wrote a check within just a few minutes, for an unnaturally well-preserved classic car. I mean, it really is an intense car. It made some great noise too.

I want to point out that I said that in the past tense. It sounded amazing until it rendered itself silent. My pops tells me that it’s a quick fix and he just needs to find the right part. I’m thinking, it can’t possibly be as easy to get your hands on 1965 Mustang parts as it was like a thousand years ago, but Dad informs me there’s a pretty nice-sized market for them to this day. From what I’m told the nicest way to buy parts for 1966 Mustangs is via internet auctions, since you can get them rebuilt and sometimes even brand new. They might not be super-cheap, however… Think about it, these are thirty year old car parts.

I guess it could’ve been worse… Imagine if he would’ve decided to buy a big tattoo or something.
