Fight Cardiovascular Disease And Lower Blood Pressure With Arginine

Posted by Dan on Mar 19, 2009 in Lucky Hit

L-Arginine is the substrate for the synthesis of nitric oxide (NO), the endothelium-derived relaxing factor essential for regulating vascular tone. In the human body, it is a semi essential or conditionally essential amino acid. Amino acids are the building blocks of protein and protein is the basis of all living cells.

Amino acids are considered essential if they must be consumed in the diet and non essential if they can be produced within the body. That is why amino acid arginine is considered conditionally essential. Most adults, unless suffering from certain rare genetic disorders, can synthesize sufficient arginine to meet the body’s demands, however infants and young children cannot produce arginine and since arginine is essential for the production and release of the growth hormone, they must receive the amino acid in dietary intake.

Arginine is an amino acid that can be taken as a supplement. It has been used for infertility problems, chest pain (angina), heart diseases, atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries), lack of growth hormone, preventing blood clots, high blood pressure, frequent urinary tract infections, migraine headache, to assist in weight loss, diabetes, and to increase the body’s ability to fight disease.

One of the great benefits of L-arginine is that is helps to reduce the risk of and improve the effects of cardiovascular heart disease. There are so many more benefits than any other pharmaceutical or nutraceutical agent ever discovered up to this time. Another benefit of L-arginine is that is produces nitric oxide which is also beneficial in the fight against cardiovascular disease.

L-arginine is a vital amino acid that plays a role in a number of physiological functions in the body, but is best known for its cardiovascular benefits. In the body, amino acid l-arginine is converted to nitric oxide, which relaxes the blood vessels and regulates blood vessel tone and flexibility as well as blood pressure. This reduces stress on the heart, improves circulation, and lowers blood pressure. The amino acid l-citrulline is metabolized to yield more l-arginine, which in turn provides additional nitric oxide. Citrulline helps to optimize blood flow throughout the body and promote healthy energy levels.

This nonessential amino acid is involved in the urea cycle, which converts ammonia to urea, and in the synthesis of creatine. Which means this amino acid can help the kidneys work better by assisting the removal of ammonia and creatine from the blood.

L-arginine is a great amino acid that can help may bodily functions. Always consult your health care provider before starting Arginine while on prescription medications. High quality Arginine can be found at your local or internet vitamin store.

Fight Depression With St. John’s Wort

Posted by Dan on Mar 19, 2009 in Lucky Hit

St. John’s Wort is a flowering plant. Wort is an old English word for an herb or plant. It grows in many parts of the world. Its scientific name is hypericum perforatum. All of the above ground parts of the plant are used which are collected while the plant is flowering.

St john’s wort herb has traditionally been used to treat bruises, burns, and mild depression or anxiety. St. John’s Wort contains many different substances that work together. Its major active compound is hypericin.

Strong scientific evidence supports use of St. John’s wort for treatment of patients with mild to moderate depression and without suicidal ideation. St. John’s wort may increase CNS serotonin and, in very high doses, acts like a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI). Dose is 300 to 600 mg once per day of a preparation standardized to 0.2 to 0.3% hypericin, to 1 to 4% hyperforin, or to both are usually recommended. St. John’s wort is also said to be useful for treating HIV infection but has proven adverse interactions with protease inhibitors and non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NNRTIs).

In a randomized, double-blind placebo controlled study, published in Pharmacopsychiatry a group of 147 people took either a st. john’s wort extract with 5 percent hyperforin, one with 0.5 percent hyperforin or a placebo. At the end of the six-week trial, those taking the highest hyperforin dose showed the most positive results. After eight days, those who took the higher hyperforin showed the greatest changes in delta, theta and alpha-1 brain wave activity. Scientists hypothesize that this is physical evidence that hyperforin is inhibiting the re-uptake of seratonin, noradrenaline and dopamine.

This finding is so significant that Pharmacopsychiatry, a highly regarded German journal of clinical pharmacology and psychiatry, recently devoted an entire supplemental issue to hyperforin. It includes several recent clinical studies that show hyperforin to be the compound responsible for inhibiting neurotransmitter reuptake, rather than the compound hypericin as previously believed.

With every passing day, clinical research is amassing more data demonstrating hyperforin to be the key to St. John’s Wort’s power. “This discovery is extremely exciting for people seeking a dependable route to a positive outlook on life,” said Derrick DeSilva Jr., MD, a practicing internist who teaches at JFK Medical Center in Edison, NJ, and is author of Ask The Doctor: Herbs & Supplements for Better Health.

St. John’s Wort is an excellent natural alternative to prescription drugs with little side effects. Those suffering from depression should also consider essential fatty acids especially; primrose oil and omega-3 fish oil which may also help alleviate their symptoms. Natural high quality standardized st. john’s wort is available at your local or internet nutrition store.

Right Way To Fix Leaks In Your Basement Floor

Posted by Dan on Mar 19, 2009 in Lucky Hit

There are many of us who rent a home or an apartment – but dream of one day owning our own home. When we are able to have this dream come true we feel freedom in being able to do what we want with it without having to ask someone else for permission.

Also don’t forget to check the level in your sump pump.

Those of you who own homes understand this liberating feeling. However, there are certain negatives to owning a home. The biggest one is the facts that the responsibility to find someone to fix repairs and to pay for those repairs no longer falls to someone else. That is all on your shoulder and the costs can sometimes be high or you can call a basement waterproofing contractor.

One of the biggest problems that older homes and a few newer homes can have is a basement that leaks through the floors and sometimes the walls. This problem can cause serious water damage if it is not taken care of fast and efficiently.

The good thing is this very big problem can be fixed – but it requires the right tools and patience. If you want to save yourself some money you can fix the leak yourself. If done right you will save yourself from hiring a professional – which can cost hundreds of dollars.

One of the first things that you will need to do is to find where the leak is coming from. Most likely it will be coming from your basement floor – but it is possible for the walls to have a few problems. Once you have found all of the holes you must seal them completely.

Once you have finished all of the patching it is time to apply the waterproof mix that you have chosen. There are many types of basement floor waterproofing mixes. Most of them will only require that you add water before placing it in the designated area. Just make sure that you follow the directions carefully.

Depending on what mix you chose, you will either have to spray down the floors and walls with water or keep them completely dry. Some mixes cannot be applied to walls that have been painted. If this is the case you will need to sand down the paint before applying the mix.

Apply the basement floor basement waterproofing michigan mix onto the designated area using a stiff brush. Rub it in a circular motion over the wall or floor. When placing it on the wall make sure that you start at the bottom because this is where the water pressure is greatest.

You only need to apply the mix to the area that has been leaking. It is important to go out to the edges and only a few inches beyond to ensure that it is properly sealed – but not too far. Once the mix has completely dried and not able to rub off soak it with water and let it set overnight.

Carb Diets: Fad Diets For Weight Loss

Posted by Dan on Mar 19, 2009 in Lucky Hit

Many of the longest lasting diet crazes in recent years have been carb diets. Atkins was probably the most popular, but South Beach and others have gained in popularity. While these are not as popular as they once were, they are still used by many dieters. The basic idea of carb diets is that if you reduce your carb intake, your body will have to resort to using proteins and burning stored fat for energy. This type of diet is said to help you lose weight by stopping the cycle of storing carbs and sugars as body fat, which is a huge problem for some people.

Carb diets can be dangerous if not done correctly. It is never advisable to start any of the carb diets, or any diet for that matter, without talking to your doctor. There may be risks you may not be aware of, and certain medical conditions may make it impossible for you to follow one of the carb diets without some sort of unhealthy side effect.

When I first heard of Atkins, they advertised all the foods you could eat on their plan. Eggs, steak, and cheese were all foods that you could eat. Many people dove into this diet with great delight, without bothering to read up on the particulars of the diet. As with all carb diets, you have to watch your fat intake. Eating tons of greasy steaks, and foods fried in fat, will clog your arteries. These carb diets don’t actually say you can do this, but many don’t realize this. In most cases, you need to choose lean meats, watch the grease, and take in carbs in the form of veggies.

You don’t have to follow one of the mainstream carb diets in order to lose weight using the idea behind them. You can cut carbs from your own diet, and make healthier choices without falling headlong into a fad diet. Take some time to learn the difference between what are considered good carbs and bad carbs. Good carbs include fruits and veggies, and whole wheat breads and cereals.

Bad carbs are mostly refined sugars and white breads — it’s always a good idea to cut back on such items to achieve weight loss. Carb diets urge you to take the natural approach, eat more protein and stay away from refined and processed foods. This is good advice for anyone, but you should talk to your doctor about the particulars, and make sure you are healthy enough to follow the diet you have in mind.

Carb diets may never go away, and with good reason. Many have lost weight on them, and continue to keep that weight off. Just remember to get all the information you can, and talk to your doctor before you begin. You may even want to join a community or online weight loss program to keep you motivated and on the right track. The best of the carb diets won’t help you if you can’t stick with it.
