Stop Whining Or You’ll Never Lose Weight

Posted by Dan on Oct 31, 2009 in Lucky Hit

I lost 45 lbs in six months by following the Weight Watchers plan. I attended the weekly meetings that Weight Watchers encourages (which are very beneficial). At those meetings there were a lot of people who were losing weight and doing great, but there were also those who were failing in their efforts. Here’s why:

The common denominator among those who were failing was that they complained a lot. “I was so tempted by that piece of chocolate cake!” they would moan. “I just couldn’t stay away from that ice cream!” they would whine.

On the other hand, those who were successful in their efforts never complained. Were they tempted by the chocolate cake and ice cream? You know they were! But they knew they could do it and stuck to their guns.

When you’re trying to lose weight, you need to build your will power. You need to remember what I was taught in Weight Watchers: “Nothing tastes as good as being thin feels.” It’s so true.

If you’re always complaining about how difficult it is to lose weight or resist temptation, all you’re doing is demoralizing yourself and those around you. You need to focus on the positive: “I will resist that temptation.” Once you successful overcome an obstacle, pat yourself on the back about it! Share your success with others who are working hard to lose weight as well. It will encourage them and you to keep going.

It’s easy to complain, but complaining only drags you down and prevents you from succeeding. So stop whining and start losing weight!

Wireless POS And Wireless Mobile Computing Increases Business Profits

Posted by Dan on Oct 31, 2009 in Lucky Hit

Until recently, restaurant and hospitality owners were wary of adopting wireless POS systems for their establishments. Issues such a cost, ease of use and a general uncertainty about new technology caused them to take pause. Nowadays, however, with the popularity of PDA’s, Blackberries, cell phones and the like, mobile technology and wireless mobile computing has become main stream, and hospitality providers are taking a second look.

In a high cost and competitive market, it’s no wonder that those in the hospitality industry want technology to help them increase revenues. But how can a wireless POS device help them achieve this?

Wireless mobile computing can help in many ways. One such instance is by eliminating the need for staff to line up at a specific POS terminal to place orders. By utilizing mobile technology, serving staff are more productive since time spent during the order taking process is decreased. Wireless mobile computing also allows serving staff to place orders instantly, and then go directly to the next table, thereby increasing table turns. And because serving staff are more productive, significant savings can be seen through decreased labor costs.

Another drawback to stationary POS terminals is that serving staff usually place a number of orders at once to the kitchen, overwhelming kitchen staff. Placing orders tableside eliminates this problem, as orders are more evenly spaced.

One important benefit to also consider with a wireless POS solution is that by placing orders directly at the table, order taking is more accurate and less food is wasted. This directly translates into decreased food costs. Also, serving staff can spend more time with customers, which significantly increases up-sell opportunities.

Utilizing wireless mobile computing in a hospitality environment also allows restaurateurs to approach staffing in a more cost effective and efficient way. Instead of scheduling a large number of serving staff who are responsible for all the order taking and food delivery, a wireless POS solution allows restaurant owners the opportunity to hire just a few skilled staff, give them larger sections, and make their primary focus greeting customers, taking orders and up selling. Non-serving staff can then be hired (at significant payroll savings) to dispatch food and clean sections. When serving staff are able to remain on the floor, the result is superior customer service and again increased sales through up selling and faster table turns.

One company, Volante POS Systems of Toronto, Canada has come along and revolutionized the wireless POS industry in a creative and innovative way. By using PC notebooks (not much bigger then a handheld) the entire POS software is loaded on the unit and it runs as a terminal with peer to peer, data synching etc. PDA’s don’t work in this manner- they require writing to the unit (in other words, new code, separate product) plus they’re not robust enough for Food and beverage. Volante has evolved its software into the peer to peer architecture, and now POS software can be loaded onto a small wireless notebook with amazing results. The technology is revolutionary – nobody else can do what Volante is doing.

This approach can work exceptionally well in venues that aren’t traditional table side establishments, such as stadiums, trade shows, casinos, arenas, race tracks and outdoor sales areas (such as rooftop patios for instance) where conventional POS terminals aren’t practical nor feasible.

Wireless mobile computing from Volante offers even more important and innovative features. For instance, the menus on the notebook or handhelds are the exact same menus as on the traditional register. The databases are in sync with one another. You don’t have to program them separately; they’re an extension of the host computer. This approach is less expensive because it doesn’t require separate servers for handhelds and traditional registers. And because Volante POS software is written in pure Java, its real time as well.

Another company, Double Diamond Group, is more of a payments consultant and offers a range of services including strategic consulting, project execution and business development, targeting companies across the electronic payments spectrum.

For more information on payments consulting and how wireless POS technology and wireless mobile computing can help your business increase profits and productivity, visit Double Diamond Group.

Wireless POS solutions truly allow Hospitality leaders to enter the 21st century, while also giving them an extra edge in a fiercely competitive industry.

Fancy Dress vs Postal Strikes

Posted by Dan on Oct 30, 2009 in Lucky Hit

One of the UK’s largest fancy dress online retailers claims it may face a bill of at least £50,000 as a result of the postal strike. Jokers’ Masquerade in Newbury, Berkshire, sends out 4,000 parcels a day during October, its busiest times of the year.

Two years ago, a strike cost the firm £47,000 in additional delivery costs. The Communication Workers Union (CWU) said it had been “pushed” into striking by “aggressive Royal Mail management”. The first nationwide postal strike in two years began at 0400 BST, 23rd Oct..

‘Protect reputation’

Rob Hamilton-Day, operations manager at the Jokers’ Masquerade warehouse, said he had “had to take the contingency measure of using another courier” earlier in the week. He said it was better for the firm to lose some profit by spending the extra money on deliveries, rather than lose its long-term reputation. But this year’s extra deliveries would cost the firm far more than those it faced two years ago, he said.

The firm will use the courier until the end of October. Mr Hamilton-Day added the firm was also considering switching deliveries away from Royal Mail permanently as a result of the current strike.

Terry Jackson, regional secretary of the Communication Workers Union (CWU), said: “Our postmen and postwomen don’t want any businesses to go away from Royal Mail, equally they don’t want to lose any money on strike action.

“Nonetheless, they’ve been pushed into this situation by an aggressive Royal Mail management.”

Jokers Masquerade Fancy Dress Costumes Coupons are also available via their website as a “thank you” to current and prospective customers to do business with them.

Going to the book fair

Posted by Dan on Oct 30, 2009 in Lucky Hit

Last night we had parent teacher conferences for our Kindergarten student. They went ok, but the most fun part was going to the book fair and seeing all the neat books available to kids at a reduced cost. They ranged from early readers to advanced students. They had a few priced at $2.50, most were $5-$7. Since we were there on the last day I think we missed out on some good selections, but still managed to find quite a few that our young reader would enjoy.

I’m excited to go to this again next year, or even find one at a different school and go to theirs. The proceeds from all sales go back into the school which is very helpful.

Our son is doing well in school. His teachers consider him to be bright, a fast learner, and very good at math and reading. Most of all I want him to be recognized for his talents and be given every opportunity available. I was an A student in school and was able to be in any group I wanted. All the advanced activities were made available and helped shape who I am today. I want my son to have those same opportunities.

Top 3 Tips for Preparing for the Future Release of 3D Television

Posted by Dan on Oct 30, 2009 in Lucky Hit

CNN recently released a news story that informed the public that by the year 2010, 3D television should be not just in the theaters but in homes across the nation as well. Two popular television brands recently provided a demonstration of the televisions that they have designed to broadcast television in 3D. The companies were Sony as well as Panasonic. These are not the only brands expected to release this technologically advanced system, though. JVC as well as Mitsubishi are also in the developmental stages on their 3D television set. Here, I will provide the top 3 tips for preparing for the future release of 3D television.

1. First, you will need to start saving a little cash. In order to enjoy 3D television, you will need to purchase an actual television set that is designed to broadcast 3D images. At this point in time, there are no releases regarding integrating 3D channels on standard televisions. Due to the fact that at home 3D TV will be a “new” form of technology, it is likely that the television sets will be relatively expensive.

2. In addition to incorporating a new television set into the home, you will also need to purchase 3D glasses. While the TV manufacturers may start to sell these along with the sets, it is quite likely that the “cheap” models will work. The idea is to get stocked up now prior to the actual release of the television sets. If you wait, you may discover that the demand for these glasses results in price increases.

3. You may want to designate an area in the home, apart from the standard television set that you have, where you and your family can enjoy the 3D television once it is released. Due to the fact that this will be a new technology, it is important that you avoid going out and totally replacing your standard television at this point.

3D television will be an exciting addition to the many choices in entertainment that we have today. However, it is best to prepare for the integration of this technology. By following the top 3 tips listed here, you can be ready when the new television sets come on the market!

Can Massage Chairs Actually Work?

Posted by Dan on Oct 30, 2009 in Lucky Hit

Massage has been around for a long time and is often used to soothe aches and pains. Just think about how good it is to rub your own feet when they’re hot and tired. It’s effective if it’s done right, but it’s difficult to do properly on yourself. Not everyone can afford to pay a professional. Professional masseurs may charge 40 and up and for many of us it can be too expensive to have done regularly.

If you can’t afford regular massage, is there any solution to the problem? The benefits of regular massage can be extremely attractive. Well, there are a number of things you could doOne of the easiest and cheapest over the long term is to buy one of the growing selection of home massage chairs, such as the SBM-500H from Homedics.

What a massage chair is for is to give you varying levels of massage intensity and, sometimes, to add heat to the massage. The different models ,of course have different features, but common to all of them is the concept of “zones”. There are usually at least a couple of zones of massage, which may be independently switchable and controllable. That means you choose the area where you need the massage the most.

Quality models, like the shiatsu SBM 500H, or Homedics SBM 500H, offer independently controlled back and shoulder massage. Once you’ve experienced the ability to choose the area to be massaged, just by flicking a button it can be hard to go back to a basic model.

The models with heat output are quite lovely to sink into on a cold winter’s evening. Sitting on a chair that gently warms your back and combines it with a gentle de-stressing massage, is a great way to relax and unwind, after the tension of the day.

If you have any health issues, or joint, back, or heart problems, consult your doctor for professional advice before self-administering any massage.

Reciprocal Linking is Bad for Your Business Website Health

Posted by Dan on Oct 29, 2009 in Lucky Hit

As small business owners, we need to find traffic for our websites from wherever we can get it — assuming, of course, that the source is relevant traffic. Irrelevant traffic actually HURTS your website rank in the search engines so we don’t want that. For that reason, we are not fans of reciprocal linking schemes, link farms, etc.

Case in point. I recently met with a new client in Los Angeles who needed to market their small business website. They had previously enjoyed a Page Rank of 5 for their website. Over the past two years, it has dropped to a Page Rank of 3. This was due to a number of factors, but chief among those was the fact that they had been forced into a reciprocal linking arrangement with an unscrupulous vendor. It benefited the vendor tremendously, as they were able to show the search engines that their site was being ranked to from a PR5 website; it made the vendor’s site more “buoyant” (it made it rank higher) in the search engines. The moral of the story is, be very careful if someone offers to do you the “favor” of creating a link to your site, in exchange to linking from yours. It could be detrimental to your website’s Search Engine health.

Nevertheless, you should look for opportunities to receive links from relevant websites whenever possible. It might not seem fair to “take” a link without giving one back, but there are other ways you can help the linking website. If they have a satellite website, you could consider linking to that in the body of one of your posts — relevant topic / contextual link / deep link to the satellite site. Just be careful that the link partner understands that directly linking from the satellite site to their main site will not be nearly as good as if they link in a broad circle of 10 sites before returning to the main site. This is somewhat sophisticated SEO / linking strategy that we’re sharing, so it’s not for everyone to implement on their own. It also implies that you have up to 10 web properties that are all somewhat related that can be daisy chained together… Again, not for everyone. But definitely for businesses that want to insure being on Page 1 on Google. ;)

It requires a lot of time, attention and planning to implement a 10-site daisy chain strategy, and we encourage you to go into that with plenty of forethought. Take the time to not only analyze and eliminate any chance of reciprocal linking or neighbor linking possibilities in the chain, and also insure that whomever in your organization will be managing your website network understands this strategy. A small business SEO Policy is a very smart investment in resources. It takes relatively little time for a website to fall in page rank, and a significantly greater amount of time to gain rank — especially after it is lost.

The underlying issue of Page Rank has been said to be overrated, and it’s largely a symbol of the site’s overall bouyancy in the search engines… it’s not necessarily a goal for a web owner to achieve a particular page rank; it’s more of a barometer or guideline than a definitive benchmark or landing point. The website owner with a page rank of 0 would certainly agree that a page rank of 5 would represent that his/her traffic has achieved more traffic (visitors), more conversions and more leads & sales. That’s really the benchmark we’re aiming for.

Detox Weight Loss Are They A Good Idea?

Posted by Dan on Oct 29, 2009 in Lucky Hit

One weight loss strategy that is all the rage now is are quick weight loss diets. What are these plans and what do they do for you? The theory is that certain foods ‘cleanse’ the organs and colon of certain ‘toxic’ chemicals and substances. You often hear that there is a ’spackle’ of fecal matter clinging to the colon that harbors toxins.

If you have ever had a colonoscopy, you know that this is just not true. You get ‘cleaned out’ to undergo one of these procedures, and no doctor could do this test if there were pounds of ‘impacted’ matter in your colon. It’s a myth that this condition even exists – and doing this ‘detox’ can actually hurt your health. A detox diet plan is really not a shortcut for losing weight as some might suggest.

Truly, easy ways to lose weight are hard to find, and they can be dangerous. You really don’t have ‘impacted’ matter in your colon – ask anyone who has had a colonoscopy. This is a myth that is what I call ’sham science’. It sounds good and reasonable, but is just not true.

One of the good weight loss methods, is to eat foods that don’t contribute to glycemic fluctuations, eat smaller portions more often through your day. You’ll get the benefit of a more stable blood sugar, and you’ll see weight loss as a bonus benefit.
