I went to one of Mackenzie Thorpes exhibitions a couple of years ago and was delighted at how the worlds and people he paints just link in with you completely. The images and influences of his work whether its cloud like or Japanese prints are all mixed in together made very Mackenzie Thorpe in a wonderful array of colours and emotions.
Mackenzie Thorpes Exhibitions over the past few years have sold out, and he is now known for having the biggest one man show ever put on in the north of England. Having said that after you look at Mackenzie Thorpes work you don’t get any sense of premise, just an intimate take of a second in time mirrored back at you via the work of a very accomplished artist.
Coming from a history of struggle, Mackenzie Thorpe creates a scope to his work that truly captures the dull and bright tones. Born in Middlesbrough in a era of economic hardship back in 1956, Mackenzie Thorpe found school difficult as he struggled with dyslexia, but discovered an outlet through his pieces which allowed him to express himself, and after viewing his pieces I’m happy he did.
Mackenzie Thorpe has an amazing skill of embueing tension into a still moment that just has you staring at his pictures for ages trying to work out just what he was pontificating about when he chose to create his picture, I love them.
