What Your Auto Insurance Fine Print Could Tell You
As with anything else in life, you may find yourself stumbling upon grey areas in your insurance policy. The fact of the matter is that a lot of the time, people do not read through the fine print in their general auto insurance policies properly. There are some circumstances where policy holders may be unsure about whether or not they are covered by their motor insurance company. In this article we discuss a few of those grey areas.
There is a lot of confusion over the keys of your car. What happens if you were to lock your keys in the car? Would you then break the window to get them out? The question here is if you have broken your car window to get to your keys, will your insurance company pay out for the repairs? Unfortunately, in most cases, they will not! It is better to include locksmith coverage in your policy. This is when the insurance company pays for a locksmith to come and assist you with getting into your vehicle when you have locked your keys in the car. It is especially important to consider taking out this kind of coverage extra if you do not have spare keys to your motor car. Remember that taking out insurance for car and household contents can be cheaper than a simple motor insurance policy.
There is unfortunately such a thing as a hit and run incident where someone crashes into your vehicle and then leaves the scene. This normally happens when you are not in and around your vehicle, such as when your car is parked somewhere. If the person is of an honest nature, they will leave a note and their insurance details on your windscreen. Unfortunately, this is not a common thing, and you will usually be left to deal with the problem on your own. Luckily, if you have comprehensive car insurance, then your insurance company WILL pay out for the damages. But if you do not, then you will be responsible for the repairs to your vehicle.
It is easy to see how discrepancies come about with regards to claims, but the most important thing to remember is to read through your insurances’ fine print properly. If there is anything you are uncertain about, it is imperative that you clarify it all with your insurance company.
